Management Meetings
Management meetings and the phrase “Communication is the key to success”, can never be overemphasized. If achieving positive results is the goal for your safety program, then good interaction between Management and Employees is imperative. Just as important is the communications amongst managers. A good safety program is directly related to good safety management, therefore, safety should be on the agenda for every management meeting.
Just about every effective Loss Prevention program has a Safety Committee to promote safety in the workplace. But if there is none, it becomes crucial to put safety on the agenda of Management meetings. Try not to confuse Management meetings with Safety Committee meetings. These are two different types of meetings with different goals. Whereas a management meeting may be concerned about overall operations, a safety committee has one focus, that being promotion of safety.
Topics to be discussed
Management meetings can be the catalyst to achieving positive loss cost results by addressing a few areas, which can later be disseminated to the ranks below. This would include:
- Setting Safety Goals – Upper Management, Supervisors, Employees
- Developing Strategies to reach these goals
- Implementing Policies & Procedures
- Setting Budgets for Safety
- Measuring results
- Authorizing safety action items
- Implementing accountability systems
- Review and make adjustments to Safety goals.
With these items established, it will be much easier for safety committees or subordinates to take the torch and run with it. Once everyone knows what direction they are headed in, they can plan the course of action a lot easier.
